Horse Aid Featured in The National Firefighter

We’re incredibly pleased to be featured in the latest edition of The National Firefighter, sharing the story of how Horse Aid is supporting the wellbeing of first responders.
Firefighters spend their careers running towards danger. But when the sirens stop, the impact of what they’ve seen doesn’t always fade. Many first responders experience the long-term effects of trauma, stress and PTSD after years of service.
Horse Aid was created to offer a different kind of support.
Founded by former NSW Mounted Police officer and horse trainer Scott Brodie, Horse Aid runs equine-assisted programs designed to help serving and ex-serving defence personnel and first responders rebuild confidence, regulate stress and reconnect with themselves.
The article in The National Firefighter shares the powerful story of retired firefighter Billy “Mac” McLean, who discovered a sense of calm and connection through working with horses. Many participants report improved emotional regulation, reduced anxiety and stronger peer connections after attending the program.
What makes the program unique is the partnership between people and horses. Retired racehorses are retrained and given a second chance while helping first responders navigate their own recovery journey.
We’re grateful to The National Firefighter for helping share this story and shine a light on the importance of supporting the mental health of those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.
